Saga: show an idea as it unfolds
Open the canvas and start explaining: draw, write, move around. A saga remembers not just the drawing but where you were looking, so the replay repeats your whole explanation instead of showing the finished result. No account needed, nothing is uploaded to a server.
What a saga does
- An infinite canvas for diagrams, walkthroughs, lessons and sketches
- Captures steps on its own as you draw, or only when you say so
- Replay follows your gaze: pans across the canvas and zooms are repeated
- Saves as a single .saga file holding both the drawing and the recording
Questions
- Where are my sagas stored?
- In your browser, in IndexedDB. Nothing is uploaded to a server. There is a consequence worth knowing up front: a saga is available only on the device and browser where you drew it, and clearing site data deletes it. To move your work or hand it to someone else, save it as a file.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Saga is free and open without sign-up.
- How does recording work?
- Every change is saved as a frame, and moving across the canvas is saved as a frame too: without that the replay would look as if the viewer stared at one corner the whole time. During playback you can pause, jump to any frame, or leave the author's camera and look around yourself. In manual mode a frame is captured only when you click the button.
- Can I open my saga in another editor?
- Yes. A .saga file is an ordinary Excalidraw file with the recording added to it. It opens on excalidraw.com with no conversion: you get the final drawing, and the recording simply stays in the file untouched. Older .xboard files, saved before the rename, still open as well.
