Description

This dataset contains village-level deprivation indicators derived from Egypt's 2017 Population and Housing Census. It covers 4,702 rural villages across 24 governorates in Egypt and represents the complete rural settlement system included in the study, rather than a sample. The dataset was developed to examine multidimensional deprivation patterns and identify potential deprivation traps in Egypt's rural settlement system. It includes nine binary deprivation indicators covering housing conditions, infrastructure, education, gender and livelihoods. These indicators are used in an energy landscape analysis based on a pairwise maximum-entropy model to identify stable deprivation states, barriers between states and potential policy leverage points.
