Description
Organizations in the knowledge-based economy are exposed to the loss of intellectual assets whenever experienced employees depart before their tacit knowledge has been documented. This study examines how digital repository implementation supports the transformation of tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge and the preservation of intellectual assets, with a knowledge sharing culture acting as the social enabler. Grounded in knowledge management system theory and the SECI model, a quantitative explanatory survey was administered to 189 employees of knowledge-based organizations that use digital repositories, and the data were analyzed with PLS-SEM using SmartPLS. The measurement model met the criteria for convergent validity, construct reliability, and discriminant validity. The model accounted for 52.7% of the variance in knowledge transformation and 66.2% in intellectual asset preservation. Every direct structural path was positive and statistically significant: digital repository implementation was related to knowledge transformation (β = 0.299) and to intellectual asset preservation (β = 0.483), and knowledge transformation was related to intellectual asset…
